De kans is groot dat wanneer je gaat zitten en naar jezelf, je keuzes, je gewoonten kijkt, er dingen zijn die je wilt verbeteren. Het is de menselijke aard om de beste versie van jou te willen zijn. Helaas is het vaak gemakkelijker gezegd dan gedaan. We hebben allemaal de grote dromen om een betere baan te krijgen, beter te eten, een beter huis te kopen, de gemeenschap meer te helpen. Al deze dingen zijn niet nodig, maar ze kunnen je leven zeker een beetje aangenamer maken.
Je hebt genoeg tijd besteed aan het dromen over veranderen, het is tijd om daadwerkelijk te bellen en jezelf uit te dagen om het te doen. Dus hoe motiveer je jezelf om deze uitdaging aan te gaan als je niet een van die gelukkige mensen bent die eenvoudigweg hun gedachten op iets kunnen instellen en het volbrengen? Het komt erop neer jezelf een aantal richtlijnen op te leggen en je er vervolgens aan te houden. Voor je het weet ben je in die carrière waar je altijd al van gedroomd hebt, werkend aan de beste toekomst.
Er zijn enkele vragen die u zichzelf zou moeten stellen om u te helpen bij uw reis naar verbetering. Misschien vindt u het gemakkelijker om uw motivatie te achterhalen en besluit u de uitdaging aan te gaan om uzelf ten goede te veranderen. Waarom wil je veranderen?
Identifying why you want to change is going to be a great guiding light towards actually accomplishing your goal. Having specific reasons for wanting to change and improve yourself will make it much easier. If it’s “because it would be cool to have a new job," that’s great and all but if you can look in the mirror and say “I want a new job so I can do something I am passionate about and work towards building a future for my family," you’ll have a clearer reason for making the change.
Actually taking the time to sit down and think about why you want to change may be surprising for you, and you may learn a few things about yourself that will help you to improve. Your best motivation will come from an inner drive to take on new challenges and improve your future. You may even find that the reason you want to change is much different than you originally suspected, which will help you to further improve.
Who will help you to succeed in your journey towards success?
Sure, it’s great to improve all on your own, but if you have supporters who encourage you, hold you accountable, and share joy in your successes, you’ll find that you’re more likely to stay on track. Think about the people in your life you genuinely want you to do your best, the ones who will help you accomplish your goal. These are the people who will give you the extra push when you want to give up.
Sharing your plans with these people, whether they are friends, family, a spouse, and even colleagues, will give you the encouragement to better yourself. Not only will they help you, they’ll also remind you the good things about you that don’t need improvement. Stay away from people who will let their envy of your success get in their way of supporting you.
How do plan to make these changes?
You have to know what you will do to make these changes. Even if you don’t have the exact skills, if you want to transition from being a chef to a mechanic, you don’t have the skills yet to be a mechanic, but if you enroll in classes then you’re one step closer to accomplishing your dreams. Having a clear plan in place will help you to improve, and make the challenge less of a challenge and more of a path to success.
If you don’t know what you have to do to make the changes, then look to the people around you for the answers. Talk to people, connect with those who are doing what you want to do, and ask them what they did to get there. Once you are able to identify resources that can help you, you’ll have a much easier way to accomplish your goals.
Do you have a timeframe for your improvement?
If your timeframe is “someday," stop right now. We can all say that we’ll be healthier, wealthier, funnier, someday. Someday is as good as never. Set yourself a finite timeframe to achieve your goal and you’ll have a hell of better chance getting there. It can be a year, it can be a decade. But either one is much more attainable than the ambiguous “someday."
Once you have your timeframe, set smaller goal dates to help you towards your improvement. They can be baby steps, like reading a book on becoming a mechanic by the spring, then enrolling in a night class in the fall. Each of these pieces will ultimately help you to recognize your goal, and then achieve it.
But I’m already the best I can be… why do I need to change?
There’s one in every crowd, the one who doesn’t think they need to change or improve. Newsflash to you buddy, but the day you stop thinking you need to improve is the day that you’ll start the decline. Because if everyone around you continue to improve, there will come the day when they surpass you. You’ll also lose the drive to improve, and the want to improve, and before you know it you’ll be in a lame job that you once thought was all you needed. Improvement is constant, and as long as you’re able to challenge yourself to change, then you’re a step ahead of the ones who think they’re the best of the best.
Changing isn’t always good. But when it leads to improvement, then it is the first step to the rest of your life. The world is constantly evolving; you might as well be a part of it.
