Discipline> Motivatie

You see, in life, there’s only one thing between you and your goals.

The work it takes to get there.

I made a handy diagram for those still confused.

There are so many people who wait to get work done until motivation strikes. Then, they work in short bursts until they can “get in the groove again".

They play their favorite pump up songs, share some quotes on Facebook, and talk a little bit more about how things are gonna be when they “make it".

But they never will.

They’ll never get far if they’re chasing motivation like most people do.

They need to develop discipline instead — which is easy, but most people never try.

You need to find whatever it is that stands between you and your goal, and find out how you can make the work somewhat repeatable/trackable. If your goal is to get in shape, then your repeatable task is to work out. If you want to be an author, your better be writing a chapter per day.

Whatever it is, write down what you have to do in order to get there. If you’re struggling, here’s a guide to defining those tasks.

Then, do it every day. No matter what.

Get yourself a calendar that shows the whole year, and every day that you complete your task, go and mark a big X on that day. Keep the streak alive. Do it every day.

Then, after about 3 weeks the urge for discipline will grow. It’ll become a habit. You won’t want to quit when you look at that calendar and see what progress you’ve made.

And you won’t need those Facebook quotes, and motivational playlists on Spotify to get you going anymore.
